payday.

got paid today! so i went and bought a few things...

men's pocky...forever one of my fav snacks. it's the dark chocolate version of regular pocky. not sure what kind of brand they're going for by making it gender-specific...but it's delicious and i ate the whole box in one sitting...and now the box can even be poked out and folded to hang from your purse like a peeking penguin....

some bold leopard print for me for the coming chillier nights...leopard has been one of my favorite prints for possibly a decade now. i think that means it's here to stay, and not just another one of my short-lived obsessions.

a belated birthday gift for my boyfriend. i know him so well; i know he's at least one week behind on his rss feeds...so by the time he reads this, the amazing satchel below will already be in his possession...hehe.

i treat my guy quite well...maybe i'll even tuck some men's pocky inside...

no complaints.

it wasn't terribly long ago that i felt like things might never look up again. not that things were miserable...just kind of in a humdrum. but lately i've experienced feelings of the opposite. and that kind of positivity hasn't exactly come my way in a long time. it all feels a bit foreign. it will take getting used to. but i'm going to go with it.

manhattan is a bitch. but it surprises me here and there. and surprises are the best.

and here i complain about nyc.

i don't like being so far away from my boyfriend.

weekend thrift.

in chicago, digging through big box thrift stores was one of my regular weekend activities. in nyc, not so much. that's okay. my thrifting habits involved hoarding every little thing that caught my eye, regardless of possible ill-fit or hideousness. it's way too easy to do when everything is below $2. so before i left chicago, i had about three garbage bags full of thrifted clothing items just taking up space. while it seems like we have nothing but space in the midwest, i feel like space is a very rare commodity in nyc. so...no more big box thrift shopping...

except in times when i revisit my former city...as i did this weekend at the logan square village discount.

back to chicago.

went crawling back to chicago this weekend. i was greeted by 50-degree weather and a wind chill i haven't felt since last winter...which made me quite thankful that i don't live there anymore. but by the end of my brief stay, the temperatures had strangely soared back up to a favorable low-80's, and all i had were lasting memories of wide open spaces, good friends and easy living. a few weekend scenes:

brunch at bakin' & eggs in lakeview. asparagus frittata, cheese grits, toast with homemade raspberry jam and my most favorite blueberry muffins (not pictured because i already ate them).

we celebrated vinny's birthday this weekend with a huge grill-out party followed by an indoor dance party. this party reminded me of parties in tennessee, where you kinda feel like you own the place.

party favors that i contributed to the party - ed hardy temporary tattoos, purchased from walgreen's. it seems temporary tattoos are all the rage these days. these things went fast.

oh - and chicago beat nyc to something - a sprinkles cupcake shop...mmm. sugar coma.

august retrospective:

months in this city race by like hours. i can hardly separate night from day in this strange, new york city interval of time. moments speed past, and at the end of the day, you aren't really sure if this morning was actually yesterday night, or even if yesterday was actually last week....luckily, i have a few pictures to help recollect this last summer month:
