lucky delivery.

picking up a missed package from the ups customer center was one of my first unpleasurable experiences as a manhattanite. the place pretty much sits on the westernmost edge of houston street, where the city quickly becomes dark and slightly industrial, and the line at the package pickup counter is always out the door and full of angry, frustrated people...

last week i ordered two pairs of shoes on too much of an impulse to remember not to have them shipped to my home address. receiving packages in the city can be a bitch unless you sit at home all day waiting for the ups person...which is quite unpredictable and a waste of time. you can always arrange to have them leave it at the door, but it'd most likely get stolen.

anyway...as a result of my haste, i anticipated making two separate late night trips "out west" this week. however, i was instead pleased to find both boxes stacked up in the hallway of my walk-up last night. somehow they made their way into the building and didn't get swiped!

also, the shoes were $25 and $33. now i'm really feeling kinda lucky...

stripes.

i really want anything with bold vertical stripes. vertical stripes either make me think late-80's/early-90's, and they also happen to be very slimming and elongating.

vintage blouse: mine; insight champion chase short: $44, 80s purple; red and white high waist short shorts: $35, the golden state of things; vintage 80's nautical skirt: $32, midnight flight; vintage 80's black and white shirtdress: $28, oiseau vintage.

which one of these does not belong?

one of these does not belong:

if you guessed the polka-dotted pair in the top left-hand corner...you're right.

they are not highly-coveted miu miu s/s platform mary janes like the other shoes...but they are quite similar - sky high, structural and assertive, wrapped in a shiny, printed satin...and like, $600 cheaper...

yep, best forever 21 knockoff yet. does this mean there's more fake miu miu to come? oh god i hope so!

anyway, not wanting to repeat the cross connector ring mishap of last winter, i bought them immediately. here is a direct link for the rest of you impulsive buyers!

noodle lunch date.

no, it's not the same as spending the afternoon strolling through pleasant manhattan streets with my best friend, taking the less-crowded paths and exploring all the little streets that make up this city, before settling into a tiny counter at a cozy little ramen shop...

for now, it will have to do.

in my mind, i cannot make sense of this.

why simulate togetherness when spatial separation was a mutual, conscious choice?....and one that is so terribly painful?

ramen lunch at ippudo.

i think new york city is almost the ideal place for me to live right now, save for the drawback that not all of my family and friends are here. and neither is my boyfriend...

but things are only getting better. many friends and family do already live here. and many best friends have recently moved here, will be moving here in the near future or are making frequent visits. it makes me feel way spoiled! even still, i'm going to keep on being greedy and nagging everyone i know to make the move.

to tempt, here are some pictures from today's ramen noodle lunch at ippudo (which happens to be one of nyc's most sought-after ramen places and, after today's trip, is decidedly a MOST pleasurable experience by unanimous agreement!).

ippudo at 9th st and 4th ave.

octopus in wasabi.

smoked squid layered with fresh mozzarella cheese, cherry tomato and parsley.

[since moving to nyc, i've become quite the non-vegetarian. now that i'm back on a saltwater coast with a great presence of japanese culture, i find myself wanting to eat things like tuna tartar and sashimi all the time. and now i'm totally into smoked squid...divine!]

classic ramen.

and yes - they have vegetarian ramen! it's not on the menu, but you can order it!

easy tees and cutoff shorts.

it seems to have cooled down quite a bit in nyc over the past few days...but there's still much more summer outfitting to be had.
